Accessibility in the stadium: making football an experience for everyone

Football is emotion - and nobody should be denied this. At the Merkur Arena, Sturm ensures that all fans can enjoy an unforgettable stadium experience. Around 70 barrier-free wheelchair spaces in Sectors 22 and 28 offer a central view and good accessibility. Almost all routes to sectors, sanitary facilities and catering stands - with the exception of the North Curve - are barrier-free.

Blind and visually impaired fans have access to audio description at home matches, which can be received via VHF frequency 90.5 MHz, a rental device in the stadium (from the 2025/2026 season) or via telephone and app. Even small details make a big difference: dedicated special seats in Sector 7 guarantee safety for people with walking disabilities or anxiety disorders. A barrier-free drinking fountain in wheelchair sector 28 provides refreshment - and of course, drinks vendors also run through the sector at regular intervals.

More than just seats: Discounts, companions, travelling

People with disabilities receive discounted tickets. If an accompanying person is listed on the disabled pass, admission is free for them. For certain matches, the club organises barrier-free coach travel to ensure a relaxed journey. And the fan representatives Dominik Neumann and Anton Luster also think outside the home matches: They support the organisation of away tickets and the planning of barrier-free travel.

Inclusion throughout the club: VIP, training, shopping

Whether it's the VIP experience in the barrier-free SportsBar or barrier-free stands and canteens in the training centre - Sturm takes a holistic approach to inclusion. With the exception of the shop in Hans-Sachs-Gasse, the fan shops are also barrier-free.

The Special Blackys: A very special team

The inclusive Special Blackies football team is a project close to our hearts. The focus here is not on performance, but on community, enjoyment of the game and enthusiasm for football - regardless of individual abilities.

Contact persons & inclusion ambassadors

To ensure that the inclusion programmes not only exist, but are constantly improving, Sturm has designated contact persons for all questions relating to inclusion: Dominik Neumann and Anton Luster. They are supported on match days by volunteer inclusion ambassadors, who provide valuable feedback and help break down barriers as direct contacts on site.
