The sports club Puntigamer Sturm Graz was founded on 01 May 1909 in the Augarten in Graz. The club is located in the Styrian capital Graz. The club colors are black and white. The club became Austrian champions three times (1997/98, 1998/99 and 2010/11) and cup winners five times (1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, 2009/10 and 2017/18). They also won the amateur state championship title in 1934. Regionally, SK Sturm is the Styrian record champion (eleven times) and Cup winner (nine times).

Internationally, the Black and Whites reached the group stage of the Champions League three times (1998/99, 1999/2000 and 2000/01), finishing as group winners in the third year to reach the then intermediate round of the best 16 teams in Europe. Sturm also reached two European Cup quarterfinals (in the Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup) in 1975/76 and 1983/84. In 2009/10, 2011/12, 2021/22 and 2022/23 they reached the group stage of the Europa League.

Sturm Graz was also a founding member of the first Austria-wide state league in 1949/50 and has been continuously represented in the highest division since the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1974/75.

SK Sturm's women's section has been in existence since 2011 and has reached the Austrian runner-up championship four times (2015/16, 2016/17, 2018/19 and 2021/22) and the Austrian Cup final once (2021/22).
